The Sr. Manager, Security Architecture & Innovation - R&D joins the Information Security & Risk Management team to serve as the lead cybersecurity architect for Innovative Medicine R&D Discovery. This role involves translating complex scientific needs into scalable security solutions for laboratories, operational technology, clinical supply chains, and pilot-plant environments. Key responsibilities include composing end-to-end security architectures, modernizing OT security, and implementing Zero Trust principles to protect scientific agility and data integrity. The position requires expertise in identity and privileged access, micro-segmentation, and secure instrument connectivity. Candidates must navigate highly regulated environments involving robotics, industrial automation, and process automation. Required technical knowledge includes GxP, IEC 62443, ISA-95, and NIST guidance. The role ensures that breakthrough science operates securely while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational safety.

What you'll do

  • Compose end-to-end security solution architectures for R&D laboratory and operational technology environments.
  • Translate scientific workflows into clear technical requirements, architecture options, and production-ready designs.
  • Develop and maintain reference architectures, threat models, and security standards that scale across the enterprise.
  • Implement Zero Trust principles including micro-segmentation, least privilege, and continuous verification for legacy and modern equipment.
  • Design risk-tiered asset onboarding, secure instrument connectivity, and controlled data exchange protocols.
  • Lead security reviews to maintain traceability from requirements to controls and resolve operational gaps before implementation.
  • Define ownership for security monitoring, incident response, lifecycle management, and production-readiness criteria.
  • Align diverse teams across R&D, engineering, and operations on network, identity, and data security initiatives.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in technology, cybersecurity, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • At least seven years of multifaceted cybersecurity or technology experience, including security or solution architecture responsibilities.
  • Proven success crafting security solutions in R&D laboratory and OT environments.
  • Detailed experience generating and reviewing reference architectures, standards, decision records, threat models, and implementation guardrails.
  • Solid understanding of Zero Trust, identity and privileged access, segmentation, endpoint security, and cloud integration.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry with exposure to robotics, industrial automation, or safety-critical environments.
  • Working knowledge of GxP, IEC 62443, ISA-95, and relevant NIST guidance.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP-ISSAP, SABSA, TOGAF, AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Architect, CCSP, GDSA, GICSP, or ISA/IEC 62443 (preferred).
