Senior Engineering Manager, Services Special Projects

What you'll do

• Hire, lead, and mentor a team of senior distributed systems engineers to build a new service from the ground up.
• Own the architecture, design, and delivery of highly distributed, low-latency, and fault-tolerant microservices.
• Lead the operationalization of ML workloads, including model serving, inference performance, and capacity planning in the request path.
• Drive data modeling and storage strategies across transactional databases, NoSQL stores, caching layers, and event streaming systems.
• Partner with SRE to establish operational excellence through SLOs, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
• Design reliable data pipelines and feedback loops between online services and offline analytics or ML training systems.
• Define performant, well-versioned service APIs and contracts in collaboration with client and iOS teams.
• Establish engineering best practices for design reviews, code quality, testing, CI/CD, security, and privacy.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of professional software development experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• 8+ years of people management experience leading teams of senior backend or distributed systems engineers.
• Proven track record of taking a new service from concept to production at scale and owning its long-term operation.
• Deep expertise in architecting multi-tiered distributed systems and microservices including API design, concurrency, and fault tolerance.
• Strong background in the Java/JVM ecosystem, RPC frameworks like gRPC, and experience with AWS or GCP cloud-native tooling.
• Experience deploying and operating ML models or ML-powered services in production environments.
• Experience building search, ranking, recommendation, or personalization systems (preferred).
