The Sr. Automation & Controls Engineer, PCB (Starlink/Starmind) joins the PCB team to revolutionize power generation for space applications through advanced printed circuit board manufacturing. This role involves designing, building, and optimizing controls and automation systems for PCB manufacturing equipment and material movement mechanisms. You will manage automation projects from initial factory ideation to commissioning, architecting and debugging PLC code while ensuring ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliance for robots, gantries, and conveyors. Key responsibilities include designing electrical systems compliant with NEC, NFPA, and UL508A regulations, creating HMI screens, and integrating equipment into SCADA and MES systems. Required skills include experience with high-speed manufacturing, controls, and programming, with preferred expertise in Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT, EtherCAT, Profinet, and robotics programming for high-volume manufacturing applications.
Design, develop, and manage automation projects from initial factory ideation through machine commissioning and operational hand-off.
Architect, write, and debug structured, maintainable PLC code for high-volume manufacturing applications.
Implement ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant systems for robots, gantries, conveyors, and other manufacturing equipment.
Create aesthetically simple HMI screens to facilitate the operation and troubleshooting of complex machines.
Integrate individual equipment pieces into master SCADA and MES systems.
Design electrical systems that comply with NEC, NFPA, and UL508A regulations.
Create project schedules and budgets while managing team progress to meet established milestones.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or chemical discipline.
3+ years of experience with high-speed manufacturing, controls and automation, and/or programming.
Master's degree in engineering, physics, or chemical discipline (preferred).
5+ years of experience with high-speed manufacturing, controls and automation, and/or programming (preferred).
Experience with electrical sizing, fail-safe circuit design, and troubleshooting industrial electrical systems using multimeters and oscilloscopes (preferred).
Proficiency in PLC programming, preferably Siemens TIA Portal or Beckhoff TwinCAT structured text + ladder (preferred).
Experience with HMI, SCADA, IoT, and robotics programming, preferably ABB (preferred).
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible for required Department of State authorizations.
