The Spring 2027 - IEF - SE&I / Human Factors Collegiate Intern joins the Human Factors Engineering team to ensure product development follows a human-centered design approach. This role focuses on applying data-driven knowledge of physical and cognitive capabilities to generate design requirements, ensuring products are safe, maintainable, and performant. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing trade studies on system designs, assisting in the creation of task simulation evaluations using mockups or predictive modeling tools, and conducting statistical analysis on survey and test data. The candidate will also develop simulator plans using rating scales and questionnaires while documenting results in engineering reports. Required skills include experience with research methods involving human subjects, technical communication, and a passion for aviation. Preferred tools include CATIA V5 Human Builder, JACK, 3DSSPP, and OPTIS SPEOS to support the design of advanced business jets.

What you'll do

  • Perform trade studies on system design concepts and present human factors recommendations to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assist in designing task simulation evaluations using software, physical mockups, or predictive modeling tools.
  • Select and apply appropriate anthropometric modeling tools for design concept analysis.
  • Apply descriptive and inferential statistics to analyze project data.
  • Develop and execute simulator plans using rating scales, questionnaires, and performance measurement calculations.
  • Document evaluation results in final engineering reports.
  • Validate and verify design requirements against industry and regulatory guidelines.

What we're looking for

  • Must be a full-time student currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in an accredited university.
  • Must have completed at least their sophomore year prior to the internship start date.
  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, which must be listed on the resume.
  • Expected graduation date must be May 2027 or later.
  • Preferred majors include Human Factors, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience with basic research methods and using human subjects in evaluations and experiments is required.
  • Prior experience with statistical analysis of survey, evaluation, and test data is required.
  • Ability to communicate technical and non-technical concepts clearly in both written and verbal formats.
