Spring 2027 - IEF - Electronic Systems Engineering (Avionics) Collegiate Intern joins the Electronic Systems Engineering organization to support avionics and airborne software development. This role involves developing, integrating, and certifying aircraft systems including flight deck applications, communications networks, sensors, and integrated avionics architectures. The intern will work alongside experienced engineers on projects involving software development, systems analysis, requirements validation, laboratory testing, model-based development, network analysis, and aircraft integration activities. Key technical skills include Python, MATLAB/Simulink, object-oriented design, and experience with embedded processor architecture, real-time software, and digital communication protocols like ARINC 429, AFDX, and CAN. The role addresses the complex challenge of transforming aircraft requirements into certified aerospace solutions while navigating certification considerations such as DO-178C and ARP4754A to ensure safe navigation and communication for advanced business jet aircraft.

What you'll do

  • Support the development, integration, and verification of aircraft systems including flight deck applications and communications networks.
  • Perform software development using tools like Python and MATLAB/Simulink for airborne systems.
  • Conduct system analysis and requirements validation to ensure compliance with aerospace standards.
  • Execute laboratory testing and hardware-in-the-loop simulations in dedicated test facilities.
  • Troubleshoot complex electronic systems and perform network analysis on integrated avionics architectures.
  • Participate in model-based development to translate aircraft requirements into certified engineering solutions.
  • Assist in the integration of sensors and navigation technologies into aircraft systems.

What we're looking for

  • Must be a full-time student at an accredited university pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in Software & Systems Engineering or a related field.
  • Completion of sophomore year is required prior to the internship start date.
  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher without rounding, which must be listed on the resume.
  • Proficiency in software development fundamentals and object-oriented software design is required.
  • Experience with Python and MATLAB/Simulink is required.
  • Knowledge of embedded processor architecture, real-time software concepts, and digital communication protocols is desired.
  • Familiarity with aviation standards such as ARINC 429, AFDX, CAN, DO-178C, or ARP4754A is desired.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
