As a Software Dev Engineer, Amazon Leo AI Foundations, you will join the team building the intelligent cloud backbone for a low Earth orbit satellite network. You will design, implement, and operate globally distributed systems to enable near real-time analytics and agentic AI capabilities across satellites, ground gateways, and customer terminals. Your daily responsibilities include architecting S3-based data lakehouses, developing OLAP-based analytics layers, and managing metadata with automated lineage tracking. You will build high-scale vector database infrastructure for billions of embeddings, implement hybrid search strategies, and develop cloud services and APIs to orchestrate intelligent software operations. The role requires proficiency in at least one programming language and expertise in distributed systems, data lakehouse architectures, and applied machine learning to solve complex problems regarding network performance, routing, and real-time user experience within a space-based infrastructure.

What you'll do

Architect and implement a scalable, cost-optimized S3-based Data Lakehouse for structured and unstructured data.
Build an OLAP-based analytics layer to provide low single-digit-second query responses.
Design and manage a distributed vector database infrastructure capable of handling billions of embeddings with sub-100ms retrieval.
Implement hybrid search strategies combining dense vectors with sparse representations for optimal semantic retrieval.
Develop automated data quality frameworks including staging-first policies and validation pipelines.
Create semantic data models that balance analytical performance with AI retrieval requirements.
Establish metadata management systems with automated data classification and lineage tracking.
Build cloud services and APIs to orchestrate intelligent software operations across satellite and ground networks.

What we're looking for

Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience.
At least 2 years of non-internship design or architecture experience focusing on patterns, reliability, and scaling.
Proficiency in at least one software programming language.
Preferred: 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience including coding standards, reviews, and operations.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
