The Software Configuration Staff Lead joins the GD Land Systems team to establish and maintain robust configuration management practices across software products and supporting tools. This role ensures software baselines are controlled, changes are traceable, and releases meet organizational and contractual standards. You will develop SCM plans, enforce versioning and branching standards, and administer Configuration Control Boards. Daily tasks include managing baselines for development and production environments, optimizing tools like Git, GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins, and Azure DevOps, and utilizing the Cameo modeling tool for system architectures. You will also develop scripts for build automation and maintain detailed Software Development Plans. The role solves complex configuration integrity problems within a multi-project environment, ensuring compliance with ISO and CMMI standards while supporting software engineering and quality assurance teams.
Develop and maintain software configuration management plans, policies, and procedures for assigned programs.
Define and enforce standards for versioning, branching, merging, and release management across repositories.
Establish and maintain controlled software baselines for development, test, and production environments.
Administer and support Configuration Control Boards, including change requests, impact analyses, and documentation.
Administer and optimize SCM tools like Git, GitLab, Jenkins, and Azure DevOps.
Coordinate and execute software builds and releases to ensure reproducibility and traceability of deliverables.
Maintain accurate configuration records, including item identification, version history, and component relationships.
Prepare and support internal and external audits, reviews, and assessments related to configuration management.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
7-10 years of experience in software configuration management, DevOps, or related software engineering roles.
Hands-on experience with modern version control systems like Git and various branching strategies.
Experience administering and using CI/CD and SCM tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
Strong understanding of configuration management principles including identification, change control, status accounting, and audits.
Demonstrated experience managing baselines and releases in a multi-team or multi-project environment.
Ability to interpret and apply process frameworks and standards such as ISO 9001 or CMMI.
Experience in a regulated or defense/aerospace environment (preferred).
