Senior Staff Data Engineer, Foundational Data

What you'll do

• Define and own the multi-year data strategy and architecture for foundational datasets across cloud cost, traffic, and infrastructure.
• Design and build integrated datasets from scratch to measure AI model costs, usage, and performance.
• Develop Airflow-orchestrated pipelines to ingest telemetry, logs, and billing data into dimensional models.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of Data and Analytics Engineers.
• Negotiate with stakeholders in Finance, Infrastructure, and Product Engineering to establish unified data definitions.
• Eliminate data fragmentation by identifying and deprecating redundant systems across the engineering organization.
• Perform hands-on coding in SQL and Python to build and maintain production pipelines.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support the reliability of owned datasets.

What we're looking for

• You must have 12+ years of relevant industry experience with a BS/Masters, or 9+ years with a PhD, in data engineering or a related field.
• You must be able to design, build, and operate production data pipelines at large scale using SQL and Python.
• You must be able to design dimensional models and define metrics that others can trust.
• You must have experience as a technical lead for a team or program without formal authority over the engineers.
• You must have experience writing multi-year technical strategies and securing funding/buy-in from other organizations.
• You must have experience building data products where no schema or precedent existed while persuading others to adopt them.
• You must be able to communicate complex data models to both engineering and finance partners effectively.
• Scala experience is useful but not required (preferred).
