As a Senior Software Engineer on Upstart’s Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and observability of Upstart’s production systems. Your responsibilities include implementing standards for monitoring microservices, web apps, mobile apps, databases, Kubernetes clusters, and machine learning platforms, while also improving incident response practices across the company. You will automate toil where appropriate, embody SRE principles, and work closely with other engineers to enhance system effectiveness. The ideal candidate has at least six years of combined experience in Software Engineering, Site Reliability, and DevOps, including proficiency in Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, and observability platforms such as Datadog or Sumo Logic. Additionally, familiarity with service mesh technologies and leveraging LLMs to improve SRE processes is a plus. This role operates across all U.S. time zones and involves regular on-site collaboration sessions three days per quarter.
Implement and maintain standards for monitoring various systems including microservices, web apps, databases, Kubernetes clusters, and machine learning platforms.

Automate repetitive tasks to reduce operational overhead in a fast-paced environment.
Design and build internal tooling from scratch using agile development techniques.

What we're looking for
Minimum 6 years experience in Software Engineering, Site Reliability, and DevOps.
Proficient in Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript for building internal tooling.
Expertise in Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and CDK.
Strong background in software design, architecture, data structures, and algorithms.
Experience with observability, monitoring, and incident management in cloud environments.
Ability to work across multiple teams on enterprise-wide projects.
