What you'll do

Design and implement new search features and enhancements for the Elasticsearch platform.
Write idiomatic modern Java code to build features and fix complex bugs.
Develop and implement new algorithms or data structures to improve search performance.
Lead technical initiatives to improve search relevance and vector search capabilities.
Manage and triage community issues, pull requests, and technical inquiries.
Provide technical leadership and vision for the search capabilities of the product.
Perform deep-level optimizations involving operating systems and hardware components.

What we're looking for

Professional experience with search or vector databases using HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms at scale.
Solid skills in core Java, including the standard library of data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambdas.
Ability to work with a high level of autonomy to lead projects from technical design through to completion.
Experience with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code.
Ability to collaborate across functions and teams using asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
Experience with open source projects and familiarity with different source control workflows and continuous integration (preferred).
Experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives (preferred).
