Site Reliability Engineering, Fabric (Mid, Senior, or Staff) joins the Platform Engineering department to manage critical infrastructure and operational functions. You will build and maintain a reliable, globally connected multi-cloud network while collaborating with service-owning teams to provide guidance on best practices for service-to-service connectivity. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing network architecture, service mesh, and edge load balancing while participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation. The role requires expertise in distributed systems, automation, and networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS/mTLS, BGP, and SDN principles. You will utilize cloud infrastructure primitives from AWS, Azure, or GCP, such as VPCs, routing, VPNs, peering, and CDNs to solve complex connectivity problems for MongoDB products.

What you'll do

  • Develop and maintain a reliable, globally connected multi-cloud network infrastructure.
  • Manage network architecture, service mesh, and edge load balancing for secure communication.
  • Automate manual processes to improve operational efficiency across the platform.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to service-owning teams regarding connectivity best practices.
  • Resolve critical issues related to network architecture and service-to-service connectivity during on-call rotations.
  • Implement and manage cloud-based networking primitives like VPCs, VPNs, and private links.
  • Ensure the security of customer data in transit across multi-cloud environments.

What we're looking for

  • Must have 10+ years of experience working on software and operating distributed systems.
  • Must possess deep expertise in networking fundamentals including TCP/IP (IPv6), DNS, TLS/mTLS, BGP, tunnels, overlays, and SDN principles.
  • Must be intimately familiar with modern cloud-based infrastructure and network design primitives for AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Must have strong knowledge of service mesh and load-balancing concepts in multi-cloud environments.
  • Must demonstrate a preference for automation over manual processes to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Must possess a customer-focused mindset to drive improvements for end-users.
