TL;DR · Senior Physical Verification CAD Engineer | Microsoft Careers

As a senior Physical Verification Engineer on Microsoft’s silicon design team, you will drive the development of cutting-edge Physical Verification (PV) solutions for advanced technology nodes. Your responsibilities include maintaining and supporting PV flows across all Silicon projects from early design through final signoff, ensuring consistent execution and predictable results. You will collaborate closely with internal teams to debug complex issues, identify systemic gaps, and work with external EDA partners like Siemens and Synopsys to align PV requirements and influence roadmap priorities. Essential skills include experience with Calibre tools, scripting in TCL, Python, or Perl for automation, and a deep understanding of advanced verification checks such as PERC and ESD. This role demands expertise in rule deck development and shift-left methodologies to enhance design convergence and reliability across multiple technology variants.

What you'll do

  • Develop and maintain Physical Verification (PV) flows for all Silicon projects.
  • Own PV methodology, including guidelines, checklists, and waiver strategies.
  • Lead resolution of complex PV-related flow and design issues.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment with CAD, Technology, and EDA partners.
  • Support PDK and node enablement activities to ensure PV flows are production-ready.
  • Contribute to training materials and documentation for PV activities.
  • Identify systemic design or flow gaps and drive fixes to closure.

What we're looking for

  • Doctorate in EE/CE/CS with 1+ year of technical engineering experience or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience with industry-standard PV tools like Calibre for advanced-node signoff flows.
  • Scripting skills in TCL, Python, Perl, or similar languages for flow automation and debug.
  • Ability to debug complex cross-domain issues and drive them to closure across teams.
  • SVRF rule or deck development experience including customization and enablement support.
