Senior Java Engineer - Distributed Systems, Serverless - Elasticsearch will join the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team to focus on scale, performance, and resilience within the Serverless offering. This role involves tackling deep distributed systems challenges regarding how nodes in a cluster communicate and how data is indexed, allocated, and managed across those nodes. You will build and operate core components for next-generation serverless features, improve concurrent indexing across multiple machines, and maintain the cluster coordination system to ensure safety and liveness as data moves. The role requires expertise in distributed systems, consensus algorithms, and core Java, including standard library data structures and concurrency constructs. Candidates should possess strong algorithmic skills and experience with large-scale systems. Preferred technical knowledge includes Lucene, search, analytics, the JDK, and asynchronous event-driven network frameworks like Netty to solve complex infrastructure problems.
