The Senior Hardware Systems Engineer– Data Center HWE joins the Data Center Hardware Engineering team to own the end-to-end system lifecycle for custom compute platforms. This role involves transforming high-level platform goals into verifiable hardware requirements, managing interfaces, and maintaining comprehensive documentation from initial architecture through sustaining operations. You will coordinate across domains including PCBs, rack enclosures, power delivery, networking, data storage, mechanical systems, firmware, and software. Key responsibilities include conducting trade studies, defining verification and validation plans, and ensuring technical alignment across multi-vendor integrations. The role requires expertise in high-power delivery, signal integrity, and high-bandwidth fabrics like PCIe Gen5/6 or CXL. You will solve complex integration challenges by ensuring that diverse hardware components function as a single, cohesive system to support large-scale data center services.
Define and maintain the full set of system-level hardware requirements for custom infrastructure platforms.
Author and own the system engineering document set, including interface control documents and verification plans.
Lead trade studies for major platform decisions regarding rack architecture, power delivery, and data storage.
Deliver precise requirements to sub-system owners and external suppliers to ensure unambiguous design and procurement.
Drive technical alignment across hardware, firmware, software, and operations teams to resolve interface conflicts.
Review and approve sub-system verification plans to ensure all system-level requirements are met.
Manage the handoff package from new product introduction to sustaining operations to ensure long-term maintainability.
Identify gaps in systems engineering coverage and establish documentation standards for the growing organization.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
12+ years of systems engineering experience on complex, multi-domain hardware programs that have shipped.
Proven track record of owning system-level technical documentation, including requirements specs, interface definitions, V&V records, and traceability matrices.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to drive technical alignment across hardware, software, and mechanical teams.
Experience writing and managing interface control documentation and system specifications across multi-vendor hardware integrations (preferred).
Experience breaking system requirements into sub-system allocations and building V&V strategies (preferred).
Systems engineering experience in defense, aerospace, automotive, or semiconductor capital equipment fields (preferred).
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering (preferred).
