TL;DR · Senior Hardware Systems Engineer, Data Center HWE

Senior Hardware Systems Engineer– Data Center HWE joins the Data Center Hardware Engineering team to own the end-to-end system lifecycle for custom compute platforms. This role bridges the gap between high-level architecture and execution by defining, documenting, and validating complex hardware requirements across multiple domains including power delivery, energy storage, networking, data storage, thermal management, and mechanical systems. You will manage interface control documents, conduct trade studies, and ensure seamless integration of custom and off-the-shelf components. The ideal candidate possesses expertise in electrical engineering or mechatronics and can navigate complex multi-domain hardware programs. Key technical competencies include high-power delivery, signal integrity for high-speed interconnects, and reliability engineering like FMEA. You will solve the challenge of integrating diverse subsystems into a unified infrastructure while ensuring that all requirements are verifiable and documented for long-term sustaining operations.

What you'll do

  • Define and maintain comprehensive system-level hardware requirements from initial architecture through program completion.
  • Create and manage technical documentation including interface control documents, verification plans, and trade study records.
  • Lead trade studies for major platform decisions regarding rack architecture, power delivery, networking, and data storage.
  • Translate high-level goals into precise requirements for sub-system teams across electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software domains.
  • Drive technical alignment between cross-functional teams to resolve conflicting requirements or integration risks.
  • Review and approve sub-system verification and validation plans to ensure all system-level requirements are met.
  • Identify and mitigate design choices that could limit current or future platform capabilities.
  • Manage the transition of hardware from new product introduction to sustaining operations by providing complete documentation packages.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering is preferred.
  • 12+ years of systems engineering experience on complex, multi-domain hardware programs that have shipped.
  • Proven track record of owning system-level technical documentation including requirements specs, interface definitions, and verification records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to drive technical alignment across hardware, software, and mechanical teams.
  • Experience managing multi-vendor hardware integrations and writing interface control documentation.
  • Familiarity with high-power delivery systems, signal integrity for high-speed interconnects, and rack-level thermal management.
  • Knowledge of system reliability engineering (FMEA/FMECA) and advanced technologies like AI/ML accelerator interconnects or tiered data storage.
