TL;DR · Senior Flight Software Engineer

As a Senior Flight Software Engineer within the Maritime Division, you will independently drive the delivery of embedded and safety-critical software for autonomous maritime systems. You will be responsible for designing and implementing vehicle management systems, sensor processing, state estimation, and contingency management while ensuring components are reusable across multiple product lines. Your daily work involves developing real-time embedded software using an RTOS, creating device drivers for various sensors and actuators, and building test and simulation fixtures for hardware-in-the-loop operations. The role requires proficiency in C, systems programming including data structures and concurrency, and familiarity with communication protocols like CAN, Ethernet, and MIL-STD-1553. You will solve complex technical challenges in the maritime domain by developing high-assurance software to support autonomous missions for underwater vehicles and other advanced naval platforms.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement safety-critical vehicle management systems within multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Develop scalable sub-systems for sensor processing, state estimation, and mission interfaces.
  • Write real-time embedded software using an RTOS to manage hardware components.
  • Create device drivers and interfaces for a variety of sensors and actuators.
  • Build test and simulation fixtures for both software and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Act as the technical owner for software components, including roadmap management and requirements definition.
  • Support vehicle manufacturing, deployment, and the maintenance of remotely deployed systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across multi-disciplinary teams.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a relevant field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proficiency in writing C for systems programming including algorithms, data structures, concurrency, and optimization.
  • Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and developing real-time embedded software.
  • Familiarity with communication buses and protocols such as CAN, UART, I2C, Ethernet, and MIL-STD-1553.
  • Ability to act as a technical owner for software components including stakeholder engagement and roadmap management.
  • Capability to mentor junior team members and contribute to team cohesion.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience in high assurance safety critical systems, DO-178/IEC 61508 certifications, or autonomous vehicle software (preferred).
