TL;DR · Senior Engineering Manager - Observability

As a Senior Engineering Manager on Target’s Observability Team, you will lead one of three engineering teams responsible for building and operating an enterprise observability platform that enables thousands of engineers to understand and improve the reliability and performance of their products. Your day-to-day responsibilities include managing a high-performing team of platform and full-stack engineers, delivering mission-critical systems, scaling telemetry pipelines, embedding operational excellence into developer workflows, and participating in cross-domain architecture forums. What you'll do

  • Lead the development of mission-critical, highly available observability systems.
  • Scale telemetry pipelines and analytics for thousands of applications at enterprise scale.
  • Embed reliability practices directly into developer workflows to ensure operational excellence.

  • Increase SLO coverage and improve reliability visibility across production applications.
  • Reduce mean time to detect and engage during critical incidents through proactive measures.

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with 1–3 years of people leadership
  • Proven experience building and operating cloud-native, distributed systems at scale
  • Strong background in resilient production architecture and reliability engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to lead product roadmaps and OKRs in large enterprises
  • Track record of developing high-performing teams within complex ecosystems
  • Ability to influence cross-domain stakeholders and drive alignment across teams
  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, CI/CD, and incremental value delivery
