As a Senior Development Test Engineer - Drones on the Development Test team, you will perform hardware testing on various systems and structures including drones, missiles, and spaceflight hardware. You will manage test campaigns, develop procedures and sequences, automate repetitive operations, and collaborate with design engineers to resolve system anomalies while maintaining high safety standards. Your daily work involves executing structural, dynamic, and environmental tests, leading Test Readiness Reviews, and providing technical oversight to junior engineers. The role requires proficiency in engineering first principles, hardware automation, and software-hardware communication. You will operate data acquisition systems, thermal chambers, and electrodynamics shakers while utilizing tools like Python or Matlab. Relevant domain experience includes knowledge of hazardous systems, instrumentation components like load cells and thermocouples, and familiarity with industry standards such as MIL-STD-810 and NASA GEVS.
Execute structural, dynamic, and environmental testing on drones, missiles, and spaceflight hardware.
Plan and execute hardware test campaigns across development and qualification phases to meet program milestones.
Mentor junior engineers by reviewing test procedures, providing technical oversight, and guiding root cause analysis.
Lead Test Readiness Reviews to ensure all instrumentation, facilities, and procedures are vetted before execution.
Operate and troubleshoot data acquisition systems, thermal chambers, electrodynamic shakers, and fluid power systems.
Automate repetitive test operations to improve overall testing efficiency and safety.
Create work instructions for technicians regarding the fabrication and integration of test articles and equipment.
Communicate test status, risks, and results to program leadership through regular briefings and written summaries.
What we're looking for
5+ years of professional experience in a related engineering field.
Experience in an immersive interdisciplinary technical project in collegiate or professional settings.
Experience in hardware automation and software-hardware communication/integration.
High competence with and fluid use of engineering first principles.
BS, MS, or PhD in an engineering discipline.
Must be a U.S. Person due to access to export controlled information or facilities.
Ability to perform physical efforts including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 25 lbs.
Knowledge of hazardous systems, instrumentation, industry standards (MIL-STD-810), coding languages, 3D modeling, and manufacturing processes (preferred).
