TL;DR · Senior Compiler Engineer Infrastructure

As a Senior Compiler Engineer Infrastructure on the Compute Compiler Team, you will work at the intersection of open-source compiler development and internal infrastructure to improve developer productivity at scale. You will be responsible for reconciling downstream compiler codebases with upstream projects like LLVM, Clang, and MLIR by restructuring, refactoring, and managing patch queues. Your daily work involves building tools and workflows for rebasing, validation, and large-scale refactoring while exploring AI-assisted tools to enhance code navigation and review efficiency. The role requires expert C++ programming skills, a deep understanding of compiler internals such as IRs and build systems, and experience with source-control heavy workflows. You will serve as a technical bridge between internal teams and open-source ecosystems to ensure the maintainability of compiler stacks used across various GPU products.

What you'll do

  • Reconcile and synchronize internal compiler codebases with open-source projects like LLVM, Clang, and MLIR.
  • Lead efforts to restructure, merge, or retire internal code to reduce divergence from upstream repositories.
  • Build infrastructure, tooling, and workflows to improve productivity and maintainability for internal compiler engineers.
  • Develop automation tools for rebasing, patch management, validation, and large-scale refactoring.
  • Integrate AI-assisted tools into developer workflows for code navigation, change analysis, and review efficiency.
  • Act as a technical bridge between internal development teams and the broader open-source ecosystem.
  • Partner with architecture and CI/test infrastructure teams to ensure scalable changes across distributed organizations.

What we're looking for

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with open-source compiler frameworks.
  • Excellent hands-on C++ programming skills.
  • 3+ years of experience working with large-scale, long-lived codebases including refactoring and restructuring efforts.
  • Solid understanding of compiler internals, including IRs, passes, build systems, and toolchains.
  • Familiarity with source-control–heavy workflows such as downstream vs. upstream repos, patch queues, and rebasing strategies.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals focused on robust, maintainable developer infrastructure.
  • Experience reconciling downstream forks of open-source projects or building developer productivity tools (preferred).
