TL;DR · Senior Business Systems Analysis Manager

The Senior Business Systems Analysis Manager leads the Life Product Technical Development team, serving as the senior technical business owner for the LASSIE platform. This role involves managing a small team of product analysts and APL coders to drive end-to-end requirements for complex calculation changes, defect resolutions, and modernization initiatives. You will build and maintain Python-based calculation engines while managing legacy APL tools for in-force illustrations and exception policy administration. Key responsibilities include translating regulatory and business needs into actionable requirements, providing technical guidance on Python development practices, and partnering with Actuarial Technology and Data Engineering teams. The role requires expertise in Python, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and APL to solve production, calculation, and integration issues within the life insurance product area.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the technical business owner for the LASSIE platform and related calculation tools.
  • Manage and coach a team of product analysts and APL coders on Python development and coding discipline.
  • Lead end-to-end requirements for complex calculation changes, enhancements, and defect resolutions across Python and legacy APL tools.
  • Translate business intent and regulatory updates from Product and Actuarial teams into actionable technical requirements.
  • Design, test, and implement application changes in partnership with Data Engineering, Cloud COE, and other IT teams.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of calculation logic and change history to ensure audit and compliance traceability.
  • Perform root cause analysis for production issues and coordinate technical priorities across business and IT resources.
  • Develop strategies to modernize and convert remaining legacy APL capabilities into the Python-based LASSIE platform.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, actuarial science, mathematics, engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Significant progressive application development experience in the insurance industry, including specialized depth in Python programming.
  • Strong experience in Business Systems Analysis or Product Analysis with demonstrated ownership of complex initiatives.
  • Experience partnering with IT, cloud, data engineering, security, and business teams to design and deliver application enhancements.
  • Ability to lead complex technical initiatives or small technical teams and communicate risks and tradeoffs clearly.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools to support code translation, modernization, testing, or documentation.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server and PostgreSQL for data analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of life insurance products, illustration calculations, or policy administration systems (preferred).
  • General understanding of APL (A Programming Language) or experience modernizing legacy code (preferred).
