Senior BOM Sourcing Engineer
The Senior BOM Sourcing Engineer joins the Rocket Motor Systems team to drive strategic supply network development and cost management for product hardware across its entire lifecycle. Working cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams, the individual will manage supplier selection, conduct value-stream mapping to optimize lead times, and perform risk assessments including alternate component sourcing. Key responsibilities include managing CAPEX during new product introduction, performing commonality optimization to reduce complexity, and leading cost engineering activities to align bottom-up costs with total ownership goals. The role requires expertise in procurement engineering, electronics, and mechanical device design within a high-mix, low-volume environment. Candidates must possess skills in contract negotiation, supplier engagement, and managing trade-offs for complex hardware components while navigating the specific regulatory requirements of solid rocket motor production and energetics manufacturing.
Select suppliers for specific products using the approved supplier list.
Partner with strategic suppliers to accelerate product development through concept scoping and design simulations.
Develop and consolidate manufacturing BOMs to enable production flexibility with internal teams and external suppliers.
Manage capital expenditures (CAPEX) throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase.
Perform value-stream mapping to optimize supply network lead times and flexibility.
Conduct BOM risk assessments including the identification of alternate component sources.
Ensure all components meet necessary qualifications before production begins.
Lead cost engineering activities to minimize total cost of ownership across the product lifecycle.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical field.
5+ years of experience in sourcing engineering, supplier engagement and development, or design of electronics and/or mechanical devices.
Domain expertise in value/procurement engineering or TCO-related work at the component and product level.
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
Ability to relocate to Huntsville, AL if not already local.
Master's degree or advanced technical degree (preferred).
Experience in electronics/mechanical design, advanced sourcing, supplier development, or early supplier engagement (preferred).
Experience in highly regulated environments like energetics or solid rocket motor production; high-tech, high-mix, low-volume, and startup experience (preferred).
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS clearance (preferred).
