TL;DR · Senior ADAS Systems Safety Engineer - SOTIF (GPSSC)

At General Motors, the Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) Engineer role within the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) team requires a senior professional to lead the development and application of SOTIF methods for L0-L2/L2++ features. This involves identifying triggering conditions, analyzing failure modes across perception, fusion, planning, and controls, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure robust feature behavior. The role demands strong systems-level thinking, technical leadership, and expertise in ISO 21448 (SOTIF) and related safety standards. Candidates should have experience defining validation plans and using data-driven methods for system evaluation, as well as familiarity with ADAS compute platforms and sensor technologies like camera, radar, lidar, and ultrasonic sensing.

What you'll do

  • Lead SOTIF activities for ADAS features from concept to validation.
  • Analyze failure modes in perception, fusion, planning, and controls.
  • Align SOTIF work products with hazard analysis and end-to-end traceability.
  • Define and support comprehensive validation strategies across various testing levels.
  • Develop balanced technical recommendations for safety, availability, and customer experience.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of SOTIF methods and best practices.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, system safety, ADAS, autonomous driving, robotics, or a related safety-critical field.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 21448 (SOTIF) and working knowledge of ISO 26262 and related safety processes.
  • Ability to apply structured engineering judgment to complex technical systems and ambiguous problems.
  • Proven technical leadership and communication skills in a cross-functional environment.
  • Experience defining or supporting validation plans using data to evaluate system behavior and residual risk.
  • Familiarity with ADAS compute platforms, ECU/SoC architectures, AUTOSAR, QNX, POSIX RTOS, hypervisors, or safety partitioning concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with safety analysis methods such as FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, STPA, or related techniques.
