Scientist, Optical Systems Engineering

What you'll do

• Apply optical communications and electrical engineering principles to hardware development.
• Develop and analyze system requirements for free-space optical communication links and ground terminals.
• Run performance models including link budgets, pointing simulations, and adaptive optics mitigation techniques.
• Integrate optical terminals into satellite architectures and coordinate with cross-functional teams on design and testing.
• Oversee space hardware development, troubleshooting, and defect resolution during system testing.
• Manage subcontractors by authoring Statements of Work and ensuring compliance with program obligations.
• Lead technical teams to deliver complex programs on schedule and within scope.
• Evaluate customer needs, conduct design trades, and mitigate risks for business pursuits.

What we're looking for

• Must be able to obtain a US DoD Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree with 12 years of experience, Master's with 10 years, or 16 years of experience without a degree.
• Experience in optical design, integration, and testing of optical assemblies.
• Experience leading technical teams.
• Familiarity with the Space Development Agency (SDA) OCT Standard (preferred).
• Experience with MATLAB for data analysis and automation of testing procedures (preferred).
• Familiarity with evaluating and selecting vendors for critical components (preferred).
• U.S. citizens.
