Principal Software Engineer, Early Clinical Development

What you'll do

• Spearhead the architecture and deployment of production-grade pipelines and services from rapid prototypes.
• Architect and develop advanced applications and AI assistants using LLMs, RAG, and multi-agent architectures.
• Institute evaluation frameworks, operational guardrails, and continuous monitoring protocols for GenAI and ML systems.
• Direct the architectural strategy for cloud-native, API-first services and interoperable data products.
• Forge cross-functional partnerships to optimize clinical data review, site feasibility, and enrollment forecasting.
• Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team of software, data, and machine learning engineers.
• Identify and develop scalable, foundational solutions to serve broader organizational needs.

What we're looking for

• 8+ years of progressive experience leading high-performing software engineering teams and directing complex technical initiatives.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
• Extensive background in engineering management with a proven ability to lead teams and mentor talent.
• Profound technical expertise in modern software engineering, enterprise cloud platforms, and advanced data storage architectures.
• Proven track record of spearheading large-scale, complex technical projects from inception to delivery.
• Exceptional communication and strategic partnership capabilities to build cross-organizational trust and drive consensus.
• Deep commitment to driving engineering excellence, system scalability, and reducing architectural complexity.
• Onsite presence at the South San Francisco campus at least 3 days a week.
