TL;DR · Principal Scientist, Tin Management Architect

The Principal Scientist - Tin Management Architect joins the Source Research department to lead the definition and evolution of next-generation Tin Management architecture for future lithography light sources. This role focuses on solving critical challenges regarding tin debris generated during the laser-produced plasma process, which is essential for protecting hardware, maintaining optical performance, and enabling higher source power in EUV systems. The architect will define long-term technology roadmaps, identify architectural trade-offs, and shape future source concepts by collaborating with research, modeling, and product development teams. Key responsibilities include shaping experimental strategies, defining modeling and AI capabilities, and communicating technical recommendations to leadership. Candidates must possess a PhD in Physics, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics and demonstrate expertise in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, plasma physics, lasers, or photonics while utilizing computational modeling, data analytics, and digital engineering tools.

What you'll do

  • Define and drive the long-term Tin Management architecture and technology roadmap for future EUV source development.
  • Identify architectural challenges, technology gaps, and critical learning requirements to guide research investments.
  • Shape experimental strategies and learning plans for research test rigs to provide actionable system-level insights.
  • Define the modeling, simulation, AI, and data capabilities required to support Tin Management decision-making.
  • Drive technical alignment between research, product development, and external stakeholders to influence future product architectures.
  • Communicate architectural learnings and technology recommendations to leadership through reports and executive presentations.
  • Perform hands-on technology development, experimentation, modeling, and problem solving for approximately 50% of the role.

What we're looking for

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in complex physical systems.
  • Expertise in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, plasma physics, lasers, photonics, or related technologies.
  • Strong background in experimentation, modeling, simulation, and data-driven decision making.
  • Experience applying computational modeling, data analytics, AI/ML, and digital engineering tools to technology development.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with business strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction through leadership and collaboration across organizational boundaries.
  • Legal authorization to access controlled technology as defined in U.S. Export Administration Regulations.
