Principal Engineer, UAIS joins the Uber AI Solutions team to take end-to-end ownership of high-impact AI data verticals. The engineer will navigate ambiguity to make strategic technical decisions, drive business metrics like revenue and market reach, and serve as a technical partner in key customer relationships. The position requires expertise in production ML, high-scale backend distributed systems, and specialized domains such as real-world physical AI data, agentic RL environments, multimodal and multilingual ML, and GenAI or LLM systems at production scale. Candidates must possess deep knowledge of architecture, evaluation, safety, and responsible deployment while utilizing skills to move a product from early stages to meaningful scale within the AI infrastructure space.

What we're looking for
Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
10+ years of experience building and shipping products powered by ML with a history of owning both technology and business results.
Proven track record of driving measurable business growth such as revenue, adoption, or market expansion.
Deep expertise in both machine learning systems and backend distributed systems to build production systems that scale.
Ability to identify high-leverage opportunities in ambiguous spaces and drive them to real business impact.
Exceptional communication and leadership skills to align customers, product, and business leadership.
Experience taking a product or business line from early stage to meaningful scale (preferred).
Expertise in GenAI, LLM systems, or specific domains like physical AI, agentic environments, or robotics (preferred); management experience is helpful (preferred).
