TL;DR · PhD Research Intern, Hardware and Systems Architecture

PhD Research Intern, Hardware and Systems Architecture - 2027 is a role within the research team focused on developing cutting-edge hardware, software, and algorithmic technologies for next-generation GPU systems. The intern will conduct research on algorithms, hardware, and system software to advance state-of-the-art capabilities in deep learning, humanoid robotics, database analytics, and general computing. Daily responsibilities include inventing new techniques, methodologies, and devices, as well as developing methods for scientific evaluation through simulation, modeling, and benchmarking. The role requires proficiency in C, C++, and Python, along with experience in computer architecture, operating systems, distributed systems, or compilers. Candidates will address technical challenges involving agentic driven techniques, LLM training infrastructure, and AI/systems co-design to create prototypes and patents that establish a technology vision for products five to ten years into the future.

What you'll do

  • Conduct cutting-edge research on algorithms, hardware, and system software to advance deep learning and robotics.
  • Invent new techniques, methodologies, and devices to enable future product lines.
  • Develop prototypes and file patents based on original research findings.
  • Create methods for the scientific evaluation of research artifacts using simulation, modeling, and benchmarking.
  • Produce a long-term technology vision for products planned 5 to 10 years into the future.
  • Design and evaluate research ideas through rigorous experimentation and prototyping.
  • Develop systems infrastructure for LLM training, inference, and agentic state management.

What we're looking for

  • Pursuing a PhD degree in a relevant discipline such as CS, CE, EE, Physics, or Math.
  • At least one year of university or industrial research experience in computer architecture or computer systems.
  • Strong programming ability in C, C++, and Python (preferred).
  • Experience designing and evaluating research ideas through prototyping, simulation, modeling, or experimentation.
  • Ability to communicate research ideas, methods, and results clearly.
  • Eagerness to learn and use AI tools for software development and system design.
  • Experience with chip/system level architecture, agentic techniques, or specialized accelerators (preferred).
  • Experience with systems for AI/ML, LLM infrastructure, or state management in agentic systems (preferred).
