TL;DR · Optical Engineer III

The Optical Engineer III (E3) joins the Engineered Optics team to develop super thin optical surfaces based on nanometer-sized structures on transparent substrates, known as metasurface based optics. This role focuses on creating components that manipulate light in the deep sub wavelength domain for applications in AR/VR devices, cameras, projectors, and sensors. Day-to-day responsibilities include defining novel inspection system concepts, designing and engineering modules, performing research in physics, and troubleshooting system problems in both lab and field environments. The candidate will conduct feasibility studies, analyze data to support risk management, and guide less experienced scientists. Key requirements include conceptual and practical expertise in optics, the ability to solve complex problems using multiple information sources, and proficiency in designing statistically valid experiments for advanced substrate technologies and new metrology systems.

What you'll do

  • Define novel inspection system concepts, configurations, and technical specifications.
  • Design, engineer, and qualify modules and sub-modules for new products.
  • Develop and modify advanced inspection and metrology systems.
  • Conduct research and analysis on physics-related subjects to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Perform feasibility studies and data analysis to support product risk management decisions.
  • Troubleshoot system issues in both laboratory and field environments.
  • Evaluate new technologies, analyze competitors, and identify emerging market needs.
  • Mentor less experienced physicists and scientists while leading small projects.

What we're looking for

  • Must possess conceptual and practical expertise as an Optical Engineer.
  • Must have a background in physics or related scientific fields.
  • Ability to design, engineer, and qualify modules and sub-modules for inspection systems.
  • Ability to perform research, data analysis, and feasibility studies on advanced substrates and technologies.
  • Capability to troubleshoot complex system problems and provide technical guidance as an advisor.
  • Ability to define system requirements, specifications, and project plans for new tool development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to explain sensitive information and build consensus among team members.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
