TL;DR · Mission Integration Engineer, Special Programs

As a member of the Mission Management team, the Mission Integration Engineer, Special Programs owns the integration of customer payloads onto the SpaceX payload platform from requirements definition through on-orbit operations. This role involves managing the mechanical, electrical, data, and thermal interfaces between externally built space vehicles and the host platform. You will be responsible for writing interface control documentation, performing requirement allocations, conducting trade studies for mass and power, and resolving technical non-compliances. The work focuses on ensuring mission safety across launch, on-orbit, and re-entry environments. Key requirements include a degree in an engineering or STEM field, systems engineering experience, and the ability to obtain a Top Secret SCI clearance. You will utilize skills in integration and test, including mate/demate procedures and environmental test correlation, to ensure payload-to-platform compatibility across various technical disciplines.

What you'll do

  • Define, baseline, and maintain configuration control for mechanical, electrical, data, and thermal interface documents.
  • Allocate customer and vehicle requirements to the interface while maintaining traceability through analysis and testing.
  • Evaluate payload designs against launch, on-orbit, and re-entry environments including thermal, dynamic, and electromagnetic constraints.
  • Lead technical trades regarding mass, volume, power, and timeline while documenting the engineering basis for decisions.
  • Resolve interface non-compliances by driving redesigns, waivers, or operational constraints to a final technical disposition.
  • Plan and execute integration activities including mate/demate procedures, interface checkouts, and end-to-end mission timeline verifications.
  • Develop and maintain integrated mission concepts of operations for on-orbit activities with payload and vehicle teams.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks at the payload-platform boundary to ensure no harm to the vehicle or co-manifested payloads.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM discipline.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret SCI clearance.
  • Experience applying systems engineering methods including requirements, interfaces, verification, or integration and test.
  • Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.
  • Active Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, or DOE Level Q clearance (preferred).
  • 1+ years of spacecraft, launch vehicle, or payload integration/systems engineering experience (preferred).
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline (preferred).
  • Security Clearance as a condition of employment.
