TL;DR · Mechanical Engineer (Starshield)

Join SpaceX as a Satellite Mechanical and Mechanisms Engineer, working with a passionate team to design and develop complex electromechanical systems for cutting-edge satellites. You will own the hardware and mechanisms from conceptual design through production and on-orbit operations, iterating rapidly on designs and driving DFM to create efficient and reliable products. Utilize CAD software and structural analysis tools while collaborating closely with partner teams to establish an in-house production line. The role requires experience with mechanical and electromechanical systems, knowledge of GD&T, and the ability to work long hours and travel as needed. Familiarity with aerospace standards is essential due to ITAR requirements.

What you'll do

  • Own hardware and mechanisms from conceptual design through volume production.
  • Rapidly iterate on designs to inform high-level systems trades and steer product direction.
  • Drive DFM to create elegant, efficient designs with reduced error rates.
  • Establish an efficient product lifecycle balancing cost, complexity, and quality.
  • Perform environmental and performance testing to validate analysis and compliance.

What we're looking for

  • 1+ years of experience in mechanical and/or electromechanical design and analysis.
  • Experience with CAD or FEA software packages.
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T principles.
  • Ownership of hardware or systems within an integrated engineering team outside a classroom setting.
  • Understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work long hours, including weekends, to meet critical deadlines.
  • Proficiency in establishing efficient product lifecycles from supply chain through final integration.
