Machine Learning Intern

What you'll do

• Lead a machine learning project from start to finish to solve specific Pinterest problems.
• Gain hands-on experience with production ML systems including infrastructure, data engineering, training, and inference.
• Leverage frontier AI tools and agents to accelerate engineering implementation, prototyping, and experimentation.
• Validate AI-generated outputs through testing, code review, and critical thinking to ensure security and accuracy.
• Use AI to investigate bugs, understand unfamiliar code, and summarize technical documentation.
• Write clean, efficient, and sustainable code for large-scale recommendation systems.
• Take proactive ownership of task completion and project quality with minimal guidance.

What we're looking for

• Must be a US-based applicant.
• Must be currently working towards a Master's degree in Computer Science, ML, NLP, Statistics, Information Sciences, or a related field.
• Must have knowledge of Machine Learning areas such as ranking, computer vision, NLP, content recommendations, embedding, or information retrieval.
• Must have mastery of at least one systems language (Java, C++, Python) and one ML framework (Tensorflow, Pytorch, MLFlow).
• Must be proficient with AI-native engineering, including the design of agent-friendly codebases.
• Must have experience in research and in solving analytical problems.
• Must demonstrate a high degree of autonomy in learning new agent-first development tools.
• Must be a strong communicator and team player capable of finding solutions for open-ended problems.
