Manager I, Engineering - Core Analytics will lead a small, hands-on engineering team to build the secure and scalable Core Analytics Data Access Platform. This role involves managing and mentoring data engineers while actively contributing to design, coding, and shipping critical platform components. The primary responsibility is creating a unified interface that allows AI and analytics teams to discover and self-serve production-ready datasets while embedding necessary legal and compliance guardrails. You will partner with internal stakeholders to define data contracts, APIs, and observability for model training and analysis. The role requires expertise in building ETL/ELT pipelines, streaming, and batch workflows using a core stack including AWS, Spark, and Iceberg. This position solves the challenge of providing reliable datasets and infrastructure while ensuring data governance and security across complex production environments.

What you'll do

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a small team of data engineers across multiple locations.
  • Define the technical architecture, roadmap, and engineering priorities for the Data Access Platform.
  • Write code and perform peer reviews to ensure high performance and reliability of platform components.
  • Partner with internal teams to define data contracts, APIs, SLAs, and curated analytical datasets.
  • Implement security controls, lineage, monitoring, and compliance guardrails for safe model training.
  • Evolve storage, processing frameworks, and API patterns to scale the platform for increased usage.

What we're looking for

  • Experience as a hands-on engineering manager who contributes to design and code while managing a team of 2–4 engineers.
  • Proven experience in data pipelines and at-scale data engineering, including ETL/ELT, streaming, and batch workflows.
  • Production experience with AWS, Spark, and Iceberg or equivalent table formats and compute frameworks.
  • Track record of collaborating with applied ML teams, data scientists, and analytics consumers to operationalize data for model training.
  • Experience defining SLAs, building observability, managing incident response, and enforcing data governance in production systems.
  • Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term architecture and make technical trade-offs.
  • Export control regulations, candidates should be eligible for any.
