Manager, Data Scientist, Travel Intelligence, Hotels joins the Travel Intelligence team to build the intelligent core of Capital One Travel. This role focuses on the Hotels domain, where you will own the end-to-end technical strategy for Search & Sort and Pricing Optimization. You will partner with cross-functional teams to build machine learning models through all phases of development, from design and training to evaluation and implementation. You will work with a broad stack of technologies including Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and relational databases to analyze huge volumes of numeric and textual data. The work involves moving from offline historical data models to real-time machine learning solutions to determine what customers see and pay during the travel booking process.

What you'll do

  • Own the end-to-end technical strategy for Search & Sort and Pricing Optimization within the Hotels domain.
  • Build machine learning models through all phases of development, including design, training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
  • Leverage Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, and Spark to extract insights from large volumes of numeric and textual data.
  • Architect systems that determine customer-facing pricing and search results for the Capital One Travel platform.
  • Define key performance metrics such as MOB and Reference Price coverage in partnership with Product and Engineering teams.
  • Translate complex technical data science work into tangible business goals and actionable insights.
  • Develop and maintain real-time machine learning solutions using cloud computing platforms and relational databases.

What we're looking for

  • Must have a Bachelor's in a quantitative field plus 6 years of data analytics experience, a Master's/MBA plus 4 years, or a PhD plus 1 year.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience leveraging open source programming languages for large scale data analysis.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience working with machine learning.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience utilizing relational databases.
  • Must have hands-on experience developing data science solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.
  • Must be able to build machine learning models through all phases of development, including design, training, evaluation, and implementation.
  • Must be able to retrieve, combine, and analyze data from a variety of sources and structures.
  • PhD in a STEM field plus 4 years of experience in data analytics (preferred).
  • At least 1 year of experience working with AWS (preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience in Python, Scala, or R for large scale data analysis (preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience with machine learning (preferred).
