TL;DR · Manager, AV Evaluation

Manager, AV Evaluation leads an engineering team dedicated to building evaluation platforms, metrics, and analysis tools for autonomous driving technology. The role involves overseeing the development of software and dashboards that evaluate performance across simulation and on-road testing environments. Key responsibilities include defining technical direction for systems inspecting the autonomy stack, developing machine learning methods to quantify behavior patterns, and creating automated workflows for risk assessment and release gating. The position requires expertise in Python, C++, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and SQL, alongside experience with PyTorch and robotics frameworks like ROS. Candidates must possess strong skills in data visualization, statistical modeling, and large-scale time-series analysis. This role addresses the critical challenge of translating complex system-level results into actionable feedback to ensure safety and reliability in autonomous vehicle deployment across various operational domains.

What you'll do

  • Lead and coach a team of engineers building autonomy evaluation platforms, metrics, and analysis tools.
  • Set technical direction for systems that monitor autonomous driving software performance across the entire technology stack.
  • Drive the design and delivery of algorithms to aggregate and cluster metrics from simulation and road testing.
  • Develop statistical and machine learning methods to quantify performance and identify behavior patterns in various domains.
  • Oversee evaluation approaches for ML components in perception, prediction, and planning to ensure they are scalable and explainable.
  • Deliver interactive dashboards and reports to provide leadership with insights on trend analysis and risk detection.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define requirements and align evaluation strategies with product release needs.
  • Integrate emerging AI techniques like LLMs and VLMs to classify performance and prioritize validation tasks.

What we're looking for

  • 8+ years of experience in robotics, autonomous systems software, data analysis, ML evaluation, or autonomy analytics including leading technical teams.
  • 3+ years evaluating dynamic systems using numerical and/or ML approaches, including time-series data and interconnected subsystems.
  • Proficiency developing Python in production environments, including testing, performance, and code review.
  • Hands-on familiarity with Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and data visualization libraries for large-scale analysis.
  • Ability to read, debug, and instrument C++ codebases.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in driving architectural decisions and owning complex services or platforms end-to-end.
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in autonomous driving, sensor data analysis, SQL, or ROS frameworks (preferred).
