As a Lead Software Engineer- Java Back End, AWS within the Asset & Wealth Management division, you will join an agile team focused on building and delivering secure, stable, and scalable technology products. You will provide technical guidance, develop high-quality production code, and drive the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices to improve delivery speed and operational outcomes. Your daily work involves managing product design decisions, serving as a subject matter expert, and advocating for firmwide frameworks. The role requires expertise in Java using Spring Boot, Spring Integration, and Hibernate/JPA, along with Python, SQL, and NoSQL data modeling. You will utilize AWS services like ECS, EKS, Lambda, Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, and Glue, while managing Apache Kafka streams. You must navigate distributed systems fundamentals and CI/CD pipelines within a regulated financial services environment.
Develop secure, high-quality production code while reviewing and debugging code written by other team members.
Provide technical guidance and direction to support business goals and technical teams.
Drive the adoption and governance of AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed.
Influence product design, application functionality, and technical operations through informed decision-making.
Serve as a subject matter expert in specific technology areas across the organization.
Advocate for firmwide frameworks, tools, and best practices within the software development life cycle.
Design, deploy, and operate cloud-native systems using AWS services like ECS, Lambda, and DynamoDB.
Manage distributed systems and stream processing using Apache Kafka.
What we're looking for
Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
Experience developing or leading large or cross-functional teams of technologists.
Expert-level backend engineering in Java (Spring Boot, Spring Integration, Hibernate/JPA) and/or Python with strong SQL and data modeling skills.
Deep AWS experience across ECS/EKS, Lambda, Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, Glue, and CloudWatch to design and operate cloud-native systems.
Hands-on Apache Kafka experience including topic design, consumer group management, and stream processing patterns.
Solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals such as consistency models, CAP trade-offs, and distributed transactions.
Strong CI/CD and test engineering practice for building pipelines and writing tests.
Experience leading multi-organization adoption of agentic AI-enabled engineering operating models and understanding of responsible AI risk (preferred).
