As a Lead Scientist - AI & Computer Vision - Aerospace Research, you will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to develop software solutions for aerospace programs. You will design experiments to probe learning systems, build and refine AI/CV algorithms inspired by theory and data, and prototype novel systems moving from simulation to flight-relevant environments. Your daily work involves translating fundamental discoveries into scalable tools for manufacturing, testing, and lifecycle management while contributing to government-sponsored research with academic and federal partners. You will utilize Python to create both quick demonstrations and robust software systems. Key technical areas include Geometry in Computer Vision, CAD Registration, CT Imaging, Machine Learning plus Physics, Explainable Machine Learning, Graph Neural Networks, Causal Inference, Reinforcement Learning, and Vision Language Models. This role addresses complex challenges including physics discovery, uncertainty management, and edge environments.

What you'll do

  • Design experiments to probe the limits of learning systems for real-world problems.
  • Build, analyze, and refine AI and computer vision algorithms based on theory and data.
  • Prototype novel systems that transition from simulation to lab and flight-relevant environments.
  • Translate fundamental research into scalable tools for manufacturing, testing, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop software solutions for aerospace programs to impact products and internal operations.
  • Publish original findings in scientific workshops, conferences, and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Create intellectual property by writing invention disclosures and filing patents.
  • Execute government-sponsored research projects with academic and federal agency partners.

What we're looking for

  • Must have an MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in AI, Machine Learning, and/or Computer Vision.
  • Must be able to write Python code for both quick demonstrations and robust, scalable software systems.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) to access export-controlled information.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Preferred expertise in areas such as Geometry in Computer Vision, CAD Registration, CT Imaging, or Reinforcement Learning.
  • Experience writing grant proposals and communicating with government agencies like DARPA, ARL, AFRL, and ONR is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel at least 2 weeks per year and relocate to Niskayuna, NY.
