Lead Forward Deployed Engineer, AI Evaluation Platform joins the Apple Services Engineering team to build next-generation evaluation systems for LLMs, agentic systems, and human-AI interaction. This strategic role serves as the connective tissue between science, platform engineering, and product management teams to transform complex workflows into developer-first platforms. You will be responsible for operationalizing sophisticated measurement techniques, integrating evaluation primitives and SDKs into unique workflows, and transitioning consulting models toward self-service solutions. Day-to-day tasks include building demos and tutorials, gathering actionable signal on API quality, and translating novel metrics into production-grade services. The role requires expertise in AI/ML concepts, including datasets, training, inference, and evaluation metrics. Preferred experience includes familiarity with frameworks like DeepEval, Ragas, TruLens, or LangSmith to solve the core problem of establishing a scientific foundation for trustworthy AI systems at scale.
Translate novel metrics and scoring algorithms into scalable, production-grade services.
Integrate evaluation primitives and SDKs into the unique workflows of various feature teams.
Gather actionable feedback on API quality and developer experience to inform product roadmaps.
Create demos, tutorials, and reference implementations to showcase evaluation best practices.
Act as a technical bridge between research organizations and broader engineering ecosystems.
Convert vague requirements from internal stakeholders into concrete engineering specifications.
Drive the transition from a consulting model to a self-service developer platform.
What we're looking for
At least 5 years of experience in Solutions Architecture, Forward Deployed Engineering, Developer Advocacy, Technical Program Management, or a related technical role.
Experience acting as a technical partner to internal customers and translating vague requirements into engineering specifications.
Functional literacy in AI/ML concepts including datasets, training vs. inference, and evaluation metrics.
Demonstrated experience partnering with Applied Scientists or Researchers to operationalize scientific code.
Exceptional communication skills to represent the platform to executive leadership and the broader engineering community.
Ability to navigate extreme ambiguity, define roadmaps, and influence without direct authority.
Familiarity with AI Evaluation Frameworks such as DeepEval, Ragas, TruLens, or LangSmith.
Experience designing research tools with self-service adoption as a primary constraint.
