TL;DR · Lead Electromechanical Actuation System Design Engineer

Lead, Electromechanical Actuation System Design Engineer will lead the design, development, integration, and qualification of advanced electromechanical actuation systems for aerospace and defense applications. This role involves managing the full product lifecycle, from requirements analysis and architecture development to detailed 3D CAD modeling, hardware procurement, and production support. The engineer will perform trade studies, system sizing analyses, and dynamic performance assessments involving torque, speed, load paths, and resonance behavior. Key technical competencies include control theory fundamentals for closed-loop system integration, knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and experience with motors, gearing, and screw-driven mechanisms. The position focuses on solving complex engineering challenges for mission-critical hardware, ensuring systems meet rigorous aerospace standards while addressing requirements for linear motion applications, durability, and reliability in high-stakes defense environments.

What you'll do

  • Lead the design and development of electromechanical actuation systems for aerospace and defense platforms.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical architectures, detailed designs, and producible hardware solutions.
  • Perform trade studies and sizing analyses for torque, speed, load, mass properties, and manufacturing costs.
  • Conduct dynamic performance assessments including resonance behavior, backlash effects, and stability-related mechanical influences.
  • Apply control theory fundamentals to support the integration of closed-loop electromechanical systems.
  • Create 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and complete definition packages for production.
  • Manage hardware procurement, prototype builds, system integration, and troubleshooting during design maturation.
  • Lead verification testing, qualification efforts, and root cause investigations for fielded hardware.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of mechanical engineering experience, a graduate degree and 7 years of experience, or 13 years of experience without a degree.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance.
  • Experience in the design and development of electromechanical actuation systems, servo-mechanical systems, or precision mechanisms (preferred).
  • Background in machine design including gears, bearings, shafts, fasteners, fits, lubrication methods, and power transmission components (preferred).
  • Experience performing system sizing and performance calculations for torque, speed, inertia, efficiency, and load case development (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of control theory fundamentals and electromechanical interaction with closed-loop systems (preferred).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, engineering drawing generation, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis (preferred).
  • U.S. citizens.
