JOB TITLE: JavaScript Virtual Machine Compiler Engineer The JavaScriptCore team is seeking a system programmer to improve the performance, security, and stability of the JavaScriptCore engine within WebKit. You will work on the compilation pipeline, language runtime, and garbage collector to ensure fast and secure execution of JavaScript and WebAssembly. Day-to-day responsibilities include driving innovations, adding optimizations, tuning performance, implementing language features, and diagnosing existing problems. You will help guide the evolution of JavaScript and WebAssembly via public standards. The role requires proficiency in modern C++, assembly-level programming, and performance analysis. Candidates should possess experience with compilers, parsers, interpreters, memory allocators, and garbage collectors. You will specifically work on turning programs into efficient ARM and x86 machine code while maintaining compatibility with other web browsers.

What you'll do

  • Improve the performance, security, and stability of the JavaScriptCore engine.
  • Develop and optimize JIT compilers that turn JS and Wasm programs into machine code.
  • Maintain and enhance the compilation pipeline, including the parser and bytecode frontend.
  • Optimize the language runtime and the garbage collector for better execution.
  • Implement new language features and drive innovations in JavaScript and WebAssembly.
  • Diagnose and fix existing problems within the engine's runtime and compilation systems.
  • Perform performance analysis to tune the execution of JavaScript and WebAssembly.
  • Ensure compatibility between JavaScriptCore and other web browsers.

What we're looking for

  • BS in computer science or equivalent.
  • Experience programming in modern C++.
  • Experience with compilers, parsers, and interpreters.
  • Experience with assembly-level programming.
  • Experience with performance analysis.
  • Experience with memory allocators and garbage collectors.
  • Excellent debugging, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience with VMs with just-in-time compilers (preferred).
  • Experience with web browsers (preferred).
  • Knowledge of JavaScript and WebAssembly (preferred).
