TL;DR · GPU Software Engineer, GPU Libraries

As a Senior Member of Technical Staff in the GPU Libraries group, you will advance the strategy and execution of libraries within the ROCm ecosystem. You will work cross-functionally with computer scientists, software developers, and applied mathematicians to design, implement, validate, and deliver key software capabilities for high performance computing and machine learning workloads. Your daily work involves translating architectural ideas into practical solutions, providing technical input for roadmaps, and mentoring others in an agile environment. The role requires hands-on experience with C++, CUDA, HIP, OpenMP, MPI, or OpenCL for accelerated computing on CPUs and GPUs. You will also utilize Python, AI/ML frameworks, and tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes. This position focuses on solving complex technical challenges by integrating GPU kernels into broader systems while managing performance and software deployment.

What you'll do

  • Design, implement, validate, and deliver key software library capabilities for the ROCm ecosystem.
  • Integrate GPU kernels into broader systems to support high-performance computing and machine learning workloads.
  • Provide technical input to the software roadmap and contribute to architecture, design, and documentation efforts.
  • Develop technical designs that balance performance constraints with project roadmap commitments.
  • Identify gaps and inconsistencies in project scope and develop remediation plans with engineering colleagues.
  • Mentor junior staff and champion internal best practices within an agile development environment.
  • Translate architectural concepts into practical software solutions across various abstraction layers.

What we're looking for

  • Experience enabling software on GPUs and working across abstraction layers from architecture concepts to implementation and debugging.
  • Ability to translate architectural ideas into practical software solutions while collaborating with hardware, firmware, and software teams.
  • Capability to design, implement, validate, and deliver key software library capabilities for high performance computing and machine learning workloads.
  • Experience contributing to high-performance software systems using continuous integration, regression testing, and deployment tools like Jenkins, Docker, or Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices including requirements analysis, coding standards, code reviews, and version control.
  • Experience with open-source software development and collaboration with community maintainers (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with C++ and relevant applied experience using CUDA, HIP, OpenMP, MPI, or OpenCL (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Python, AI/ML frameworks, and advanced degrees such as M.Sc. or M.Eng. (preferred).
