The role requires expertise in distributed system infrastructure, API design, and cloud primitives from AWS. You will work with Java and Ruby to maintain internal and external developer products and frameworks.

What you'll do

Provide hands-on technical leadership for architecture, design, vision, and incident response processes.
Manage and grow a team of engineers and engineering leaders to deliver high-impact projects on schedule.

Prioritize engineering work based on user needs to help product engineers ship features quickly and reliably.
Drive systemic improvements to Stripe’s architecture and infrastructure platforms across the company.
Partner with recruiting to define hiring strategies and attract top engineering talent.
Lead processes that help infrastructure teams interface effectively with the rest of the organization.

What we're looking for

2+ years of experience being a manager of managers leading teams of at least 25 people.
3+ years of experience managing teams that ship and operate critical distributed system infrastructure.
Experience leading staff or principal engineers to drive alignment on architectural or strategic decisions.
Experience managing engineering teams working on API design, abstractions, frameworks, or client libraries.
Experience managing incident response processes and on-call rotations.
Experience building, recruiting, mentoring, and retaining teams to execute on a defined mission.
Experience leading partially remote teams and colocated teams in distant geos.
8+ years of management experience, including 5+ years of being a manager of managers (preferred).
