The Motion Sensing Hardware team at Apple seeks a Module Test Instrumentation & Automation Engineer to design and validate custom test systems for inertial, pressure, and magnetic sensors. This role involves creating analog and mixed-signal schematics, overseeing PCB layout, and developing software interfaces that integrate with the broader automation infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of hands-on experience in designing precision measurement hardware and writing Python scripts for test automation. Proficiency in tools like Altium Designer, Cadence, and lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes is essential, along with strong skills in signal conditioning, filtering, and noise analysis. Experience with sensor communication interfaces and firmware development in C/C++ is preferred, as well as familiarity with MEMS sensors and data automation frameworks.
Design analog and mixed-signal schematics for sensor evaluation boards and test fixtures.
Oversee PCB layout to ensure signal integrity, noise isolation, and measurement accuracy.
Develop software interfaces and APIs to connect custom test hardware to automation tools.
Write Python scripts to automate the bring-up, verification, and calibration of test instrumentation.
Perform board-level debug using precision measurement equipment to validate hardware behavior.
Collaborate with firmware engineers to define embedded interface requirements for custom test hardware.
What we're looking for
5+ years of hands-on experience in designing schematics and reviewing PCB layouts for analog, mixed-signal or precision measurement applications.
Strong proficiency in industry-standard schematic capture tools (Altium Designer, Cadence) and lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
Expertise in analog design fundamentals including signal conditioning, filtering, amplifier selection, noise analysis, and power supply design.
Proficiency in Python for test automation, hardware control, and data collection scripting, with experience developing software interfaces and APIs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to document hardware designs clearly and collaborate effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.
