The Director, Technology Operations & Sustainment leads the organization responsible for the effectiveness of the current technology baseline within the Homeland Sector. This leader manages the operation, sustainment, and lifecycle management of Business Area-owned networks and specialized energy hardware and software. Key responsibilities include simplifying the technology environment by addressing obsolescence, technical debt, and fragmentation while ensuring critical capabilities remain reliable, secure, and resilient. The role involves identifying technology-related friction to improve workflows through automation and user enablement. The successful candidate will manage portfolios, resources, and external providers to support an engineering-intensive business. Required skills include leading multidisciplinary teams, translating business needs into technology priorities, and managing significant technology investments. The work focuses on modernizing established technology environments while maintaining operational continuity for energy and utility operations.
Lead the operation, sustainment, and lifecycle management of Business Area-owned technology.
Simplify the technology environment by addressing obsolescence, fragmentation, and technical debt.
Identify and remove technology-related friction and capability gaps to improve employee workflows.
Set technology priorities based on business impact, operational risk, and user needs.
Manage the organization's portfolio, resources, investments, and external providers.
Provide senior leadership with clear insights into technology health, risks, and investment needs.
Build and develop a multidisciplinary team of technical leaders across the combined organization.
Work across security, policy, and architecture boundaries to find responsible technology solutions.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related technical discipline.
12+ years of relevant professional experience.
Demonstrated experience leading and developing technical organizations and multidisciplinary teams, including developing technical leaders.
Demonstrated leadership of significant operational technology capabilities and experience improving how a technical or engineering workforce uses technology.
Ability to translate employee and business needs into technology priorities and communicate risks and tradeoffs to senior leaders.
Demonstrated ability to simplify complex technology environments and lead across organizational boundaries, including responsibility for resources and investments.
Master’s degree in a relevant technical or business discipline (preferred).
Deep understanding of energy, utility, or engineering-intensive businesses and experience operating in a large, matrixed organization (preferred).
