The Custom Software Engineer joins the team to manage production environments, establish instrumentation, and oversee tooling, ticketing, alerting, and on-call routines for key services. This role involves decomposing complex objectives into manageable units of work, designing architecture using established patterns, and ensuring compliance with information security standards. The engineer will lead the adoption of emerging technologies across On-prem, Cloud, and Hybrid architectures while providing technical guidance to platform engineers. Key technologies include Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, Mule, Kafka, SQL, PL/SQL, XML, and JSON for microservice implementations. Experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, Splunk, Dynatrace, or AppDynamics is required. The role focuses on building resilient, scalable infrastructure solutions that support non-functional requirements across multiple lines of business while ensuring high performance, observability, and security in a complex enterprise environment.
Establish and maintain partnerships with Application Development and Production teams to ensure proper tooling and alerting.
Manage production environments including maintenance, change control, incident management, and problem management.
Design and develop significant application components using established design patterns and architectural principles.
Conduct code reviews and ensure compliance with information security and infrastructure standards.
Perform or support continuous integration, deployment activities, and observability tasks within a DevOps framework.
Lead the adoption of emerging technologies for on-premise, cloud, and hybrid architectures.
Provide technical guidance to platform engineers and collaborate with architects to ensure consistent design.
Identify complex problems across infrastructure domains and provide consultation as a primary technical resource.
What we're looking for
Minimum 15 years of experience building and maintaining applications with a focus on performance, observability, scalability, security, and reliability.
Minimum 15 years of experience overseeing enterprise-grade platform solutions.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Proficiency in Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, Mule, web Services, Kafka, SQL, and PL/SQL (Oracle).
Expertise in cloud-native deployment using OpenShift, Kubernetes, or other container platforms.
Experience with APM tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or AppDynamics.
Ability to perform continuous integration and deployment activities with a strong understanding of DevOps and observability.
Strong communication skills to explain technical details to technical audiences and high-level concepts to non-technical audiences.
