TL;DR · CPU Processor Performance Verification Engineer

As a CPU Processor Performance Verification Engineer, you will join a chip design team to manage silicon performance verification, correlation, characterization, and tuning for CPUs. You will collaborate with architects, RTL designers, and software developers to identify bottlenecks, improve architectural performance models, and develop test plans and infrastructure for performance tuning. Your daily work involves developing tests in assembly, C/C++, or Verilog to debug and correlate RTL with performance models, creating coverage monitors, and benchmarking CPU performance across various silicon, OS, and compiler versions. The role requires proficiency in at least one of assembly, C/C++, or Verilog, alongside knowledge of digital logic design, microarchitecture, and compiler techniques. You will solve critical technical challenges by profiling software applications and performing performance tuning on silicon to ensure high-quality functional products reach the market.

What you'll do

  • Verify performance features of the design and correlate them with pre-silicon and post-silicon models.
  • Develop test plans, infrastructure, and tools for performance tuning, correlation, and verification.
  • Write assembly, C/C++, or Verilog tests to debug and correlate RTL with performance models.
  • Create C or Verilog-based checkers and coverage monitors to ensure all performance features are covered.
  • Identify software bottlenecks and perform performance tuning in collaboration with OS and compiler teams.
  • Benchmark and compare CPU performance across different silicon, operating system, and compiler versions.
  • Perform performance debugging and tuning directly on silicon hardware.
  • Maintain and improve architectural performance models for advanced CPU designs.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Academic experience with performance modeling, processor verification, or RTL design.
  • Academic experience in digital logic design, CPU architecture, and microarchitecture.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: assembly, C/C++, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience in developing performance test plans and writing/debugging assembly tests for performance correlation and verification (preferred).
  • Experience in benchmark and workload analysis and CPU performance profiling (preferred).
  • Knowledge of compiler techniques and OS for performance optimization (preferred).
  • Knowledge in developing instruction profiling tools on silicon, performance modeling for advanced CPUs, or silicon validation (preferred).
