TL;DR · Computational Pathology Scientist

Computational Pathology Scientist The Computational Pathology Scientist joins the Research Pathobiology group to apply AI, machine learning, and image analysis to digital pathology data supporting drug discovery and development. This role involves executing project-facing work across oncology, virology, fibrosis, and inflammation pipelines by applying deep learning and computer vision to extract histopathological endpoints and perform spatial analysis of tissue-based imaging data like H&E, IHC, CISH, mIF, CODEX, and spatial transcriptomics. The candidate will utilize Python, MATLAB, PyTorch, Pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy, OpenSlide, OpenCV, MONAI, or Elastix to develop scalable solutions and manage large datasets. Key responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate scientific questions into actionable plans, managing projects from planning through delivery, and utilizing tools like Visiopharm for analysis. The role addresses the technical challenge of automating and scaling complex pathology workflows in a research environment.

What you'll do

  • Apply machine learning and computer vision models to digital pathology data for drug discovery and development.
  • Execute histopathological endpoint extractions and spatial analyses of tissue-based imaging data.
  • Curate and prepare large imaging datasets for project analysis and training of deep learning models.
  • Develop and optimize scalable computational pathology workflows using internal, commercial, and open-source tools.
  • Translate scientific questions into actionable analytic plans and manage projects from planning through delivery.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations to both expert and non-expert stakeholders via reports and presentations.
  • Manage data quality, documentation, and risk assessment for high-throughput pathology imaging workflows.

What we're looking for

  • A Bachelor's degree and six years of experience or a Master's degree and four years of experience are required.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for image processing and computer vision is required.
  • Experience with deep learning libraries such as PyTorch, Pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy, OpenSlide, OpenCV, MONAI, or Elastix is required.
  • Expertise in applying machine learning and deep learning models to imaging data is required.
  • Ability to manage computational projects from planning through delivery is required.
  • Experience with medical image data formats and large pathology images like WSI, CODEX, and ST is preferred.
  • Experience using Visiopharm or similar commercial image-analysis platforms for pathology is preferred.
  • Advanced degrees in quantitative disciplines such as Computer Science, Physics, or Statistics are preferred.
