The Cloud Computing Architect serves as the technical authority for classified and unclassified cloud environments, specifically focusing on DoD IL5 and IL6 AWS or Azure platforms. You will lead the design, modernization, and deployment of mission-critical systems, translating cybersecurity and operational requirements into approved architecture patterns and technical roadmaps. Key responsibilities include designing secure landing zones, identity and access management, networking, compute, storage, encryption, logging, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery. You will utilize skills in network segmentation, RMF, and ATO activities to support production operations. Required technologies and competencies include AWS, Microsoft Azure, Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, or Ansible, and container platforms such as Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, Azure Kubernetes Service, or Red Hat OpenShift. This role addresses complex security requirements for air-gapped environments.
Serve as the technical authority for classified and unclassified cloud environments, including DoD IL5 and IL6 platforms.
Design secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architectures for landing zones, networking, identity management, and storage.
Lead cloud architects and engineers through the design, modernization, and deployment of mission-critical systems.
Translate mission and cybersecurity requirements into approved architecture patterns, technical roadmaps, and implementation guidance.
Support RMF and ATO activities by resolving complex security requirements and ensuring production readiness.
Design highly available cloud solutions for disconnected, restricted, or air-gapped environments.
Ensure all proposed architectures account for service limitations and operational constraints of classified environments.
What we're looking for
6+ years of experience architecting, designing, deploying, and modernizing enterprise cloud environments using AWS or Microsoft Azure.
5+ years of experience leading cloud architecture efforts and providing technical direction to engineers and operations personnel.
5+ years of experience with identity and access management, network segmentation, compute, storage, encryption, logging, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery.
3+ years of experience developing cloud architecture artifacts, design patterns, technical roadmaps, and implementation guidance.
3+ years of experience supporting DoD RMF, ATO, security control implementation, and accreditation activities.
Experience designing or supporting DoD classified, disconnected, restricted, or air-gapped environments, including IL6 cloud environments.
Security+ CE Certification.
Top Secret clearance.
Experience architecting solutions within AWS Secret Region or Azure Government Secret (preferred).
Experience with cross-domain solution dependencies and approved data transfer architectures (preferred).
Experience modernizing legacy applications for containerized or cloud-native environments (preferred).
Experience with Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, Azure Kubernetes Service, Red Hat OpenShift, or related container platforms (preferred).
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tools, including Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep, or Ansible (preferred).
Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture, STIGs, NIST security controls, and DoD cloud security requirements (preferred).
TS/SCI clearance (preferred).
Master’s degree in CS, IT, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field (preferred).
AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or similar Cloud Architecture Certification (preferred).
