TL;DR · Chief Competitive Performance & Microarchitecture Analysis

Chief Competitive Performance & Microarchitecture Analysis serves as a technical leader and architect tasked with establishing the Advanced Competitive Performance capability. This role involves setting the strategy, workload priorities, and operating rhythm for predicting, validating, and communicating future server CPU competitiveness across x86, Arm, cloud-custom, and CPU-plus-accelerator platforms. The individual will manage the predict-validate-translate cycle, including workload taxonomy, architecture assumptions, model tuning, and executive communication. Key responsibilities include reviewing core designs, cache/memory hierarchies, I/O, power, and software stacks while ensuring fair benchmarking and data provenance. Required expertise includes deep knowledge of CPU pipelines, branch prediction, execution resources, NUMA, memory bandwidth, and cross-ISA effects. The role addresses the technical challenge of quantifying uncertainty in long-range forecasts to inform architecture, platform, and product decisions within the server processor market.

What you'll do

  • Establish the technical strategy and operating rhythm for AMD competitive CPU performance forecasting.
  • Manage the predict-validate-translate cycle including workload taxonomy, architecture assumptions, and model tuning.
  • Lead reviews of hardware components such as core design, cache/memory hierarchies, I/O, and power.
  • Create a review discipline that distinguishes measured results from modeled inferences and uncertainty.
  • Integrate x86, Arm, and cloud-custom analyses into a unified view of competitive risks and advantages.
  • Deliver concise executive readouts explaining performance positions, confidence levels, and recommended actions.
  • Translate technical evidence into specific feature and platform recommendations for product teams.
  • Establish standards for fair benchmarking, configuration control, and data provenance.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical or computer engineering.
  • Demonstrated senior technical leadership in CPU/system performance, computer architecture, performance modeling, or competitive benchmarking.
  • Proven track record of translating low-level performance evidence into architecture, platform, or product decisions.
  • Deep understanding of CPU pipelines, branch prediction, cache/TLB behavior, NUMA, memory bandwidth, and cross-ISA effects.
  • Strong command of experimental design, benchmark fairness, configuration control, statistical interpretation, and reproducibility.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to present risk and recommendations to senior audiences.
  • Experience working across architecture, software, platform, product, field, customer, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience with AMD EPYC, Intel Xeon, Arm Neoverse, pre-silicon modeling, or AI host-CPU analysis (preferred).
