TL;DR · Aviation Development Engineer, Networking

As an Aviation Development Engineer, Networking (Starlink), you will join the team responsible for integrating Starlink technology into aircraft to enhance the passenger experience. You will drive requirements for next-generation cabin environments, design and operate hardware-in-the-loop lab representations of airline cabins, and translate flight data into scalable architecture decisions. Your daily work involves managing connectivity architecture, including access-point placement, band planning, and frequency reuse. You will also configure and validate routers and access points while ensuring security through WPA3-Enterprise and Passpoint protocols. Key technical areas include IP networking, Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 standards, and multi-gigabit environment support. The role requires expertise in RF link budgets, QoS, and regulatory compliance with the FAA. You will collaborate with aerospace manufacturers and internal stakeholders to manage complex project dependencies and ensure seamless service launches for global airline partners.

What you'll do

  • Own cabin connectivity architecture including access-point placement, band planning, frequency reuse, and backhaul to Starlink terminals.
  • Define and drive next-generation Wi-Fi requirements for passenger cabins, focusing on multi-AP coordination and high-density environments.
  • Design, build, and operate hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) lab environments to validate architecture before fleet rollout.
  • Configure and validate cabin routers and access points including SSID/VLAN management, QoS, and authentication protocols.
  • Develop end-to-end IP networking and protocol designs for both IPv4 and IPv6 systems.
  • Translate coverage, throughput, and authentication measurements into technical requirements and test plans for partners.
  • Manage the technical engagement and successful launch of Starlink services with airline partners.
  • Coordinate with aerospace manufacturers and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with safety and manufacturing standards.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline.
  • At least 1 year of experience in an engineering function or a technical program/product management role.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
  • Experience in Wi-Fi systems design including IEEE 802.11 standards and high-density environment architecture.
  • Proficiency in IP networking, router/AP configuration, and protocol design (IPv4/IPv6, DHCP, DNS, NAT).
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) lab environments and RF/system integration testing.
  • Expertise in hotspot security and authentication protocols such as WPA3-Enterprise and Passpoint.
  • Strong communication skills to manage technical programs, documentation, and stakeholder coordination.
