Associate Director, Commercial Data Science

What you'll do

• Define and execute the Commercial AI and Advanced Analytics strategy across Amgen's Commercial Business Units.
• Lead a portfolio of AI, Machine Learning, and Generative AI initiatives from strategy through deployment.
• Provide technical oversight for predictive modeling, customer targeting, causal inference, and optimization capabilities.
• Translate complex business challenges into scalable data products and enterprise analytics capabilities.
• Build and manage a high-performing team of data scientists while establishing technical standards and governance.
• Communicate complex analytical concepts to executive audiences to influence investment decisions and ROI assessments.
• Partner with Data Engineering and Digital Technology teams to operationalize enterprise AI capabilities.
• Champion responsible AI principles and ethical practices across the Commercial organization.

What we're looking for

• Must have a Doctorate with 3 years, Master’s with 7 years, Bachelor’s with 9 years, Associate’s with 12 years, or High School/GED with 14 years of experience in a quantitative field.
• Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience directly managing people or leading teams, projects, programs, or resource allocation.
• 5+ years leading cross-functional AI, analytics, or data science initiatives that delivered measurable business outcomes (preferred).
• 3+ years of people leadership experience, including coaching and developing technical talent (preferred).
• Deep understanding of AI, Machine Learning, Generative AI, optimization, causal inference, and modern data science methodologies (preferred).
• Bio/Pharmaceutical commercial experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience providing technical direction for cloud-based AI platforms including Databricks, AWS, Azure, or similar technologies (preferred).
• Previous hands-on programming experience in Python, R, Scala, Java, or similar languages (preferred).
