The Staff AOSP Engineer joins the DeviceOS engineering team to serve as a technical authority for custom Android OS architecture on Clover point-of-sale platforms. You will lead functional solution architecture, design system services, and optimize framework-layer components across multiple Android versions. Key responsibilities include bridging high-level application frameworks with low-level C/C++ native layers, managing Hardware Abstraction Layers, and developing factory flashing tools to ensure manufacturing yield. You will architect platform security workflows involving PKI certificate provisioning, SELinux policies, and HSM or ARM TrustZone integrations. Lead functional solution architecture and technical designs for custom AOSP builds on payment terminals.
Design and optimize Android system services, background daemons, and framework-layer components.
Bridge high-level application frameworks with low-level C/C++ native layers and Hardware Abstraction Layers.
Build and maintain factory flashing tools, diagnostic software, and board bring-up daemons with manufacturing partners.
Architect platform security workflows including PKI certificate provisioning and SELinux/SEAndroid policies.
Integrate Hardware Security Modules (HSM) and ARM TrustZone into the device platform.
What we're looking for
7+ years of hands-on software development experience focusing on customizing, building, and deploying AOSP at the platform/OS layer.
Proven track record in architecture, design, and customization of Android devices and platforms including frameworks/base, SystemServer, JNI, AIDL/HIDL.
Technical proficiency in at least two major languages used in the AOSP stack: Java, C++, C, or Kotlin.
Hands-on experience adapting Android frameworks, system services, and Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL).
Proficiency with AOSP build tools and revision control workflows including Git, Gerrit, repo, Android.bp, and Android.mk.
Deep understanding of platform security protocols, encryption/decryption, PKI certificate management, and Hardware Security Modules (HSM).
Hands-on experience with Android HAL development or Project Treble architecture (preferred).
Experience working with Linux Kernel for Android, device drivers, or ARM TrustZone / TEE environments (preferred).
